PRESS CONFERENCE:
Affirming Community Support for Frank Fromherz,
for his endorsement of the April 12th Peace March,
and for his work for Economic Justice, the Environment,
Justice and Peace
Date: Friday, April 11th, 2003
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Place: Waterfront Park (South side of the Morrison Bridge at the
rivers
edge walkway)
Friends and colleagues of Frank Fromherz will gather for a press
conference
at the site of an upcoming peace march to express their support for the
former director of the Portland Catholic Archdiocese Office of Justice
and
Peace who was fired Tuesday. The press conference will begin at 10:00
a.m.
on Friday, April 11th, at the south side of the Morrison Bridge at the
river
s edge walkway, on the west bank of the Willamette River.
"Were gathing at Waterfront Park because that will be the site for the
next
peace march, and it was Franks endorsement of this march that led to
his
being dismissed from his calling as director of the Office of Justice
and
Peace," said Will Seaman, a local organizer who has worked closely with
Fromherz. "But of course Franks work went far beyond his deep
commitment
to the peace movement, and we are gathering also to express our support
for
the other important work that Franks been a part of as a leader in the
Catholic community here in Portland."
Among those present and making statements at the press conference will
be
Sister Barbara Raymond, a Holy Names Sister representing Catholic
religious
communities, Mr. Charles Hudson of the Columbia River Intertribal Fish
Commission, Ms. Rebecca Slak, the director of Neighborhood Pride Team /
Trillium Artisans speaking on behalf of grassroots community organizing
affiliated with the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and
William
Seaman, a local organizer with the Alliance for Peace and Justice, the
coalition planning the April 12th peace rally and march. The speakers
will
be describing Fromherzs work, through his directorship of the Office
of
Justice and Peace, for economic justice, protection of the environment
and
for justice and peace. Frank Fromherz will also make a brief statement
and
will be available for reporters' questions.
